Scaling the Potential of Compact City Development: The Case of Lahore, Pakistan

With increasing urban populations, high vehicle miles have made the concept of a compact city imperative. A is characterized by high-density development and mixed land use with no sprawl. City managers are trying hard to make their cities livable. The potential conformance requires scaling before any significant intervention. Several studies been conducted on different aspects in developed world, but there limited understanding South Asian context. This study aimed fill this research gap proposes theoretical matrix gauge compactness Lahore, Pakistan. It comprises some key attributes, such as landscape ecology, measurement density, density distribution, transportation network, accessibility, dispersion index, mixed-use consumption, which were analyzed research. data using Geographical Information System (GIS) ERDAS IMAGINE software matrix. findings show that Lahore semi-compact city, become true city. paper recommends extent should not be extended until targeted colonization achieved, spatial growth managed encouraging infilled development, living, public transport provision. will help policymakers, planners, planners devising policies for development.
